چکیده

Phenyl glycidyl ether and 6 para-subst i tuted derivatives, the methoxy, tert-butyl, methyl, chloro, bromo and nitro compounds, were tested in the Ames' test for mutagenicity. With the exception of the tert-butyl derivative in TA1535, all 7 compounds were mutagenic in both strains TA100 and TA1535. Electron-donating groups in the para position decreased mutagenicity while electron-withdrawing groups increased this mutagenicity. The mutagenicity of the series of compounds in both strains could be correlated to the Hammett substituent constants for the para-subst i tuent groups. The glycidyl ether results might best be considered in terms of a normal reaction with bionucleophiles as compared to the literature report for the correlation of mutagenicity with abnormal product formation for a styrene oxide series.

Mutagenicity of aromatic glycidyl ethers with Salmonella.

6 aromatic glycidyl ethers containing naphthyl, biphenyl or benzylphenyl substituents were synthesized. These epoxides together with the commercially available compounds 2-biphenylyl glycidyl ether were examined for dose-mutagenicity relationships using the plate incorporation Ames test with Salmonella typhimurium strains TA100 and TA1535. Structure-mutagenicity relationships were further exami...

Detoxication of aliphatic epoxides by diol formation and glutathione conjugation.

The Ames procedure with Salmonella typhimurium strain TA100 was used to follow the detoxication by rat liver fractions of two series of aliphatic epoxides. The epoxides employed were 3-chloro-, 3,3-dichloro- and 3,3,3-trichloropropylene oxides and also p-methoxyphenyl-, phenyl- and p-nitrophenylglycidyl ethers. In our procedure with preincubation of the epoxides with rat liver fractions prior t...

Ames Mutagenicity Assessment of Flavored Water Pipe Tobacco Products :A Cross Sectional Study in Tehran

Waterpipe smoking has become a global youth trend especially in the Middle East countries and Iran . The aim of this study was to determine the mutagenic effects of three most popular flavored tobaccos by four different salmonella typhimurium strains and compare the possible mutagenic effects of the test samples. Ames mutagenicity assessment was conducted according to the OECD guideline using T...

Evaluation of Mutagenic Potentials of Some Food Additives by Ames Test

Some chemicals used by human such as food additives are mutagenic and mutagenicity effects analysis of them is very important because of considerable consumption by man. One of the most common methods used in the recognition of the chemicals' mutagenicity is Salmonella Typhimurium Reverse Mutation (Ames) test. The purpose of the present study is mutagenicity effects analysis of sodium nitrite, ...

Quantitative structure-activity relationships for the mutagenicity of propylene oxides with Salmonella.

A quantitative structure-activity relationship approach was used to investigate the mutagenicity of a series of seventeen-monosubstituted propylene oxides in Salmonella typhimurium strains TA100 and TA1535. Mutagenicity in strain TA100, using a liquid suspension assay, was found to correlate with chemical reactivity, as measured by the rates of reaction with two model bionucleophiles, nicotinam...
